Reading the signposts

Decode your 401(k) menu.

A workplace plan lists its funds by name, often with little else. Paste that list into the decoder and see, line by line, what kind of fund each one is and what it charges each year.

No account, no AI, and nothing you paste is saved. It stays in your visit only.

How it works

Three steps, about a minute

  1. 1Copy

    Copy your plan's fund list

From the enrolment page or the plan's website - one fund per line, in whatever shape it's shown. Headings and performance figures in between are fine.

  2. 2Paste

    Paste it into the decoder

Optionally type what you put in each month, to see each yearly fee in dollars. Any balances in what you paste are left out.

  3. 3Read

    Read it line by line

Each fund's kind, its yearly fee and where that fee comes from. When it can't be sure which fund a line is, it says so plainly instead of guessing.

What it is, and isn't

It describes. The choice stays yours.

The decoder explains what's on the menu. It doesn't rank the funds or say which to choose - your plan's materials, or a professional, can help with that. Fees come from public fund data and can change; your plan's fee disclosure has the ones that apply to you.

An educational tool, not financial advice.

  • No account. Open it and paste - no email, no sign-in.
  • Nothing kept. What you paste and the table live only in your visit, and are gone when you close it.
  • No AI. The list is matched against fund data Northwend already keeps. No AI reads it, and nothing is looked up elsewhere.
  • Your order. Funds stay in the order you pasted them. Nothing is sorted, starred or picked out.

Ready when you are.

The decoder opens in the Northwend app. To keep from being overloaded, it allows a number of lists from one place each hour.
